Fluids Alter Elasticity Measurements: Porous Wave Propagation Accounts for Shear Wave Dispersion in Elastography

In shear wave elastography, rotational speeds are converted to elasticity measures using elastodynamic theory. The method has a wide range of applications and is the gold standard for non-invasive liver fibrosis detection. However, observed dispersion in vivo human shows mismatch with purely elastic visco-elastic propagation laboratory phantom experiment we demonstrate that porosity fluid viscosity need be considered properly convert soft porous materials. We extend this conclusion clinical application stiffness characterization by revisiting studies elastography. To end compare Biot’s theory poro-visco-elastic Voigt’s model. Our results suggest accounting due could improve imaging other highly vascularized organs.
